Greenlight Family Services has been preserving families, providing hope and protecting lives throughout the state of Illinois since 2003. Our mission is to achieve the best outcomes for families, young adults, and children by providing the highest quality services. In the beginning, Greenlight focused on providing legal assistance for the growing population of grandparents raising grandchildren. Each year, Greenlight has strategically expanded its legal and social services.

In 2017, Greenlight acquired Porchlight Counseling Services, now Greenlight Counseling, which added therapy for college student survivors of sexual assault to our array of crisis counseling services. Greenlight Counseling exists to empower student survivors of sexual harm to find healing and reconnection through free, confidential counseling services. The program provides up to 20 sessions of therapy at no cost to student survivors across Illinois.

From 2016 until 2024, Greenlight managed the Adoption Listing Service of Illinois and the Heart Gallery of Illinois. In 2019, Greenlight expanded its child welfare services and moved its main office to the South Side of Chicago to better serve its foster care and post-adoption families where they live. Greenlight also opened a Springfield office to better serve the southern region of the state of Illinois.

Today, Greenlight provides relative, non-relative, co-parent (second parent), infant, and step-parent adoption services, as well as DCFS foster-parent adoption and post-adoption services. Greenlight provides services for more than 3,000 families and young adults each year.

In each year since 2023, Greenlight has been recognized as one of Chicago’s Best & Brightest Companies to Work For. This competition “honors companies that deliver exceptional human resource practices and an impressive commitment to their employees.” We are proud of our inclusive, encouraging, and family-oriented work environment and the more than 20 members of Team Greenlight who define our award-winning culture.
